A rare medical situation, which occurs when a pregnancy becomes complicated, with the fertilized egg developing outside the main cavity of the uterus, is called an ectopic pregnancy and usually leads to fetal death.
When the fetus grows beyond 12 weeks, it fails to survive and dies, the body is unable to expel or absorb it, thus beginning a calcification process.
The tissues become dehydrated, calcium enters and petrification begins, the fetus becomes mummified, a calcified stone, and may even spend years inside the body.
